Scrambling involves moving over rocky ground in hilly and mountainous areas and is the boundary area between hillwalking and rock climbing.

Who is it suitable for?
This activity is most suited to Explorers and Scout Network members although well trained and competent Scouts could also take part.

How to run/provide scrambling

There are 3 ways of running Scrambling in Scouting. These are:

  1. Scout-led activity - running scrambling yourself or using someone else in Scouting

  2. Externally-led activity - running scrambling using an external provider

  3. Activity for adult groups - running scrambling for a group entirely of adults
