UKSN Explorer Belt Process

Scout Network members have the opportunity to do their Explorer Belt Award as part of the UK Scout Network (UKSN). This does not replace the process for a District Scout Network which would follow the guidance outlined here.

UKSN Explorer Belts will allow Scout Network members from around the country to join together to undertake this Award.

Here is a simple step-by-step process:
  1. A group of UK Scout Network members (minimum of three) from different Counties decide to complete the Explorer Belt Award.
  2. They send proposals to the Volunteer Head of Scout Network at lewis.dangerfield@scouts.org.uk, for approval and support.
  3. The Volunteer Head of Scout Network links the lead team member with the Volunteer Head of Compliance to support through the Visits Abroad Process.
  4. Visits Abroad Form - Part A to be submitted for the group to the Volunteer Head of Compliance to gain outline approval. The detail may change as the Explorer Belt is developed.
  5. The UK Scout Network members develop Explorer Belt plans with the support of  the Volunteer Head of Scout Network and a local ACCI.
  6. At least two months prior to the Explorer Belt Part B of the Visits Abroad form should be completed for the group. The Volunteer Head of Compliance needs to sign off this form.
  7. The completed and signed Visits Abroad form is to be sent to HQ at least six weeks prior to leaving. Email international@scouts.org.uk.
  8. The Explorer Belt expedition is carried out.
  9. The Explorer Belt presentation is completed to a relevant audience, including the Volunteer Head of Scout Network.
  10. The Volunteer Head of Scout Network signs off the Award.
